I know what you mean. It's sort of a hot button with me because people here like to pretend that it's not a congested and busy suburb, and that kind of thinking doesn't help much in planning for the future of the town.

Newtown used to be rural, but those days are long gone.

To paraphrase a dead politician: "I grew up country. I know country. And Newtown isn't country."

Will you adopt me?

A lot of statistics get quoted here about the median house prices in CT versus other places, but I don't think they mean much for a piece of property like your current home.
I feel for you, we just could not bring ourselves to be "housepoor" for the homes in our price range. I hope you are happy there though, it seems like a pretty friendly place to reside.

Ironically, we are now relocating to IL - the Lombard/Glen Ellyn area. So we are starting this whole home/school hunt all over again.

This is how I felt when I was looking at houses in CT

It's a commute I would not like, but people do commute from Newtown to NYC. I would suggest that if it's possible, try it out a few times. Be sure to include a Friday in your trial run.

The last time we flew in to LGA and landed at rush hour, it took CT Limo six hours to get us back to the Southbury station. Never again!

Trying to get to JFK in the morning rush from Milford took us about 4 and a half hours - I know exactly what you mean.
