Hello All,
My family has an opportunity to move to the Hartford area and would appreciate any info that could be provided. Initially, business would have me in Hartford with air travel needs and would later have me in the North Hartford area still with air travel needs. We have little ones so there are needs for good day care and schools. THANKS

Hi, GDJKNA
welcome to Connecticut.

What information do you need about the Hartford area? Towns to live in? Housing costs?
Cultural pursuits?

On Greater Hartford Connecticut;

The greater Hartford metro area population is almost 1.3 million. The city sits just north of the geographic center of the state, on the west side of the Connecticut River, which runs north into Massachusetts, and south into Long Island sound, about 40 miles away.

Hartford was founded in 1636. It is the capital of Connecticut.The greater Hartford area excels in the Arts, both visual and performing. The Hartford stage company, Connecticut Symphony and Connecticut Opera are renowned. The Bushnell is an historic venue for performing arts. The Goodspeed Opera house south of the city in East Haddam is noted for its live performances in theater and more. The Wadsworth in Hartford is the oldest Public Museum in the nation (and one of the best) The New Britain Museum of American Art is nationally renowned as well. The New Science center under construction downtown on the banks of the Connecticut river should be completed in the spring.

Recreation includes both UCONN football at Rentschler field in East Hartford, as well as Basketball at the Gample Auditorium in Storrs. The New Britain Rockcats (eastern league baseball) As well as other collegiate sports.

Trinity College in Hartford is one of the best liberal arts schools in the nation, The University of Hartford is nearby as well as St. Josephs College and the UCONN Law school. The main campus of the University of CT is located in eastern CT.

Hartford is about 40 miles to the shoreline (Long Island Sound) about 100 miles to Boston, and 125 miles to NYC.

Hartford sprawls on both sides of the Connecticut river; west to east, as well to a lessor degree north to south. There are many very pleasant towns to live in in all areas of the region. Housing prices vary from town to town- but housing is generally less east of the CT river.

Towns east of the river are South Windsor, Glastonbury, Ellington, Manchester, Vernon, Bolton, Somers, Coventry and Willington.

Towns west of Hartford, West Hartford, Avon, Farmington, Simsbury and Canton are very attractive. While to the south Wethersfield, Rocky Hill and Cromwell.

North of the city; Suffield and Granby are considered very attractive. If planning to buy, each town will have different prices for homes. Perhaps we could guide you further if you would tell us what you want to spend for a home. Schools will also vary from town to town in their quality and test scores. Best of luck and welcome to the state.

Bradley Field (Bradley International Airport) BDL is located just north of Hartford.

The hartford area is a great place to raise a family. Many towns in the area have good to excellent schools and lots of family activities. Since you need to be accessible to Bradley Airport, I would sugest looking into towns to the north and west of Hartford. Simsbury and Granby are great towns with excellent schools. Consideration should also be given to East Granby and Suffield as well. Let us know more about the type and price you are interested in or if you have any other questions. We would be happy to help. Jay
