Well, the smarter you are, the more disdain you have for everyone around you. CT has one of the highest IQs in the country, second to only MA I believe, on average. You do the math.

That said, I definitely fall under your snooty Connecticut elitist stereotype. That certainly doesn't mean that everyone else here does. I just firmly believe that when people are overly friendly, it's because they have nothing else to offer. That they formulate this behavior out of being able to relate only to the people around them, because nothing personally they know or have experienced is interesting enough. That isn't necessarily a bad thing, either, though I'm sure this sort of elitism isn't very well enjoyed. That doesn't mean I believe every single person is an idiot just because they live in the Midwest or the South. When you go in with no expectations though, you are always pleasantly surprised. It's like I'm never disappointed.

This is from 2010, but the list was exactly the same for 2011. The coastal Northeast and California are ranked as being the best places to live, statistically. The South is the worst. That said, there are small pockets in the South and Midwest that scored okay.

yes/no Has nothing to do with IQ. It's a genetic issue.

Perhaps it's a little rash to judge an entire region on a couple of chance encounters with strangers. People who live in the northeast tend to like it because the people here, in general, with of course some exceptions, tend to be better-educated and more liberal than in some other areas of the country. Having good public schools with high standards helps. Having a diverse population with people of different races, ethnicities, and religious beliefs, including agnostics, also helps to foster an atmosphere of tolerance and acceptance.

why is CT #1 for health?? the state's got the 2nd highest
rate of Breast Cancer in the U.S.
probably b/c there are so many pesticides put on people's lawns, which lie near the system's waterways.

Connecticut is number 1 for Human Development, which takes into account health, wealth and education. It does not mean it is number one for health, number one for wealth, or number one for education. It takes everything into account.

Was it near NYC or upstate NY? I wasn't clear about it but I was thinking of downstate NY when I was posting that....

A lot of times, sadly, cost-of-living is the actual reason.....

No, it has the second highest rate of breast cancer detection which is due to the high quality of health care available. There is a difference. Jay
