Default teaching question

I was thinking about moving once I have my teaching certificate next january. I was looking into either Maine, Vermont, or New Hampshire, I also have been looking into Connecticut. I was hoping I could maybe get a little tidbit of info from everyone on here. A few questions I have are:

1.) which one of the 4states is best for teachers?
2.) where should I start looking (bigger cities or possibly places with more openings in any of the 3 states), I'm a secondary English teacher from Pennsylvania.

I guess I just really need anyones opinion on the matter...I haven't been bale to wrap my mind around any one state just yet nor a place in either of the three...any info at all would be awesome

CT is great for teaching. My favorite part about it is b/c travelling in CT is so quick and easy, you can find the best paying towns, teach there, and live only a few towns away where cost of living is much cheaper. For instance, I was teaching in West Hartford making around 12k more than teachers in Enfield were, however, I was living in enfield which was only a 30 minute commute each morning. If you can live JUST outside of Fairfield County, but teach somewhere in Darien, New Canaan, Westport, or Wilton the Gap is even bigger. (Westport and Wilton would be slightly closer to living in New Haven County). Those public schools start teachers EXTREMELY high. Then you could buy a modest house in Milford or Orange right over the county border and live a pretty good quality of life. In the BA step of the pay scales there you start at 40k and change between 41k and change. (This would be for a first year teacher with just a bachelors degree) You having experience would be a few steps up, each being more than a 1500 dollar increase. When/if you move to the Masters group, you automatically jump up 2 steps. For example if you go one year from BA making $40187 to MA the next year you will be making $49,772 the next year. Anyways its all relative to where you live. In those towns the average household salaries are over $150k So like I said you would want to live in a town thats not so expensive but teach in one that is. Good luck!
