My husband got a post-doc position at Yale and we will be moving soon. The problem is, we will probably have to decide on a place, sights unseen. We are on a tight budget, so I am afraid we may be getting stuck in a bad neighborhood and we won't know it. Could anyone give me feedback on the following areas?

1. The area near St. Raphael's around Frontage Road and Legion Ave as well as George St and Derby Ave.
2. The area around Trowbridge Square Park (specifically 4-5 blocks SW)
3. The area around Yale Art Gallery near George St and Chapel St
4. Around the intersection of Whalley Ave., Goffe St, and Dixwell Ave.

Any help would be spectacular. Thank you!

1. Starts to get a little dicey around and west of the hospital. East of it is pretty nice, the Chapel West neighborhood is really up-and-coming. Towards Derby Ave it's a bad neighborhood and you should avoid.
2. Marginal area, I'd personally avoid.
3. Awesome area. Highly recommend it. A+
4. That intersection is fine, but the area changes quickly depending on where you go. East on Broadway, beautiful. South on Howe Street, really nice. West on Whalley, marginal. North on Dixwell, that turns into one of the worst areas in the city. You'll have to be specific as to where.
