We found a good house in Fairfield that is very close to Bridgeport (only a few blocks away) and I'm wondering if anybody has any experience with this neighborhood in terms of safety, etc.? I know that that part of Fairfield is a lot cheaper than the Western part and am wondering if this is because of genuine safety concerns or just because it doesn't sound quite as nice to say "I live right by Bridgeport". Thoughts? Also, does anybody have any thoughts re: safety and demographics (families or students, etc.) in the beach area? From what I've seen, the beach area seems much more walkeable, which I love, but the area by Bridgeport seems to have a lot more newer houses and bigger acreage. Thank you!

Almost as far up as Lincoln Park. Are there particular areas where you would anticipate problems? Does anybody have any thoughts on the beach neighborhood, per my original post?

I agree with Dazzelman. Pretty much all of Fairfield along the Bridgeport border is good since those areas in Bridgeport are usually some of the city's better neighborhoods. The sections along Park Avenue are very nice. I would not worry.

Area near Bridgeport is still very nice. There are a handful of neighborhoods that are a little rough around the edges in appearance, but there are really no safety issues. There are many nice neighborhoods and you shouldn't hesitate to live there.

I couldn't agree more. I think the beach area is way overpriced for what you actually get. And I hate the crowds in the summer, the proximity of the students, and the flooding threat. It takes a certain type of personality to live on the beach, and I don't have it.

I guess the appeal of the beach area (other than the obvious being able to walk/bike to the water) is that you're also in most cases walking distance to all the amenities of post road. Also, it seems to be the most dense part of Fairfield, so it just has a more "city" feel to it. Other than that, I also can't justify the pricing premium in that neighborhood.
