Much colder? No

both climates are considered modified humid continental- New Milford may have snowfall, perhaps annually 10-20" more then Milford and A diurnal cold 5 degrees lower overnight for the coldest night-- but these differences are rather minor.

'Much colder' is a real stretch, in comparing the 2 cities.

Northern N.M. which borders Kent and Washington are much higher in altitude. Ex: Bear Hill Rd, Upper Merryall district, Chestnutland Rd past Hipp Rd have their own climate. During winter, the downtown area for instance may have NO snow and be 45 deg., while the higher ground may be almost 10 deg. colder and have several inches of snow on the ground. You can easily get a large temp. difference within town. Dont forget, N.M. is 64 sq. miles of territory. There is also a VERY distinct rain/snow line.
The Long Island sound has a tremendous influence on Milfords temps to the south. Tends to moderate temps year round.

Thanks, Tom62, for this. I was going to respond, but you did it first. My brother's family owns a house on Kinney Farm Road in New Milford. During winter, their temperatures can easily be 10ºF (5 5/9ºC) colder than mine in Cheshire.

There were many times when my sister, who lives on the Sherman line in Northern NM, had trouble going down her hill when in Danbury there wasn't a snowflake. The air up there is much cooler than other areas, especially along the shoreline.

We had friends who used to live in New Milford, up a steep mountain. While they loved it, I do remember them saying the winters were rougher there than in lower Fairfield County, and they complained about the mountain roads being icier than other roads. The husband commuted to Stamford, they eventually moved to Bethel so he wouldn't have such rough winter commutes.

A New Milford winter and a Milford winter are just not the same. I lived in Danbury and Norwalk and the snow differences were noticable.

The storm we just had Sunday into Monday........I tracked the weather for Milford and NM, and broke NM into two locations. (my brothers house way up Rte. 109 near Washington vs. my wifes business intown) . The town of Milford along the shore shot up to 46 deg. overnight by @ 6am. My brothers house had 31 degrees at wakeup, and on the way to my job I stopped at my wifes business and checked the bubble and it was 34 deg. So from the hills of southern litchfield county it was 15 deg. colder than Milford along the shore. Thats would be fairly typical especially during a minor weather event like this weekends storm.

Are you confused? That's exactly what I said, they are not the same.
