I didn't realize they weren't already doing that. I never purchased online to avoid sales tax anyway. I just love the convenience of shopping from my warm bed.

I think the rule is if the online retailer doesn't have a physical presence in your state, you're not required to pay sales tax at the time of purchase. You are required to tell the IRS when doing your taxes how much you've bought tax-free, and pay the according tax.

The IRS doesnt ask... however, the state 1040 does ask. I saw a statistic somewhere once that said the state estimates that between 6-10% of the sales tax owed is actually disclosed there. Most people just put 0.

I have an Amazon Prime membership, so virtually everything I purchase is here within 48 hours.

Even with the extra 6.3%, I can almost always justify purchasing from Amazon. Even in the rare case where their price is full-retail, it sure beats venturing out to Worst Buy or Barnes and Noble. Lines, traffic congestion & obnoxious sales people....versus ordering in my PJ's?

I'd like to see them land in East Hartford. Seems like there's plenty of land around Rentschler, and a few additional trucks on the road wouldn't be a huge thing, as east-of-the-rive congestion is minimal.

No just fast shipping, but also cheaper shipping. It could offset the sales tax.

There is already free shipping if you can wait up to 8 business days but it's usually here in 4 days.
