Decided not to drive in to work in NY. Snow coming down pretty good here in Derby. Already sticking. Be safe all.

It started snowing here around 20 minutes ago. The snow is already sticking. I can still see the blacktop driveway and the leaves on the grass, but the garage roof has a velvety-white shimmer on it.

Obligatory mention #742: I hate winter.

Oh and yeah I work in retail. Retail doesn't close for winter storms. So I get to go TO work at noon - and I don't get out til 4.

DW just got to work in Stamford; they're letting them leave at 11:30. I reserved a hotel for her just in case.

Is 11:30 too late?

Anon: even the malls are closing early. You might get lucky.

I am at work in Hartford, not a flake here yet. Out of the bigger employers, it is a mixed bag. Aetna is closing at 11:30, The Hartford closing at 1 pm, Steam Boiler is closed...traffic this morning was certainly pleasant!

Just think about everyone leaving at the same time. Roads will be slushy by then and people will be driving slow.

I work retail also. For a car dealer......they never close. But in the end, its just a job and not worth risking dangerous situations over.

Current Surface pressure. Not an unfamiliar sight lately but always fascinating to see. Winds are going to pick up tonight big time.

998mb low off NC, 1010mb low near Great Lakes. That will transfer to the coast and blow up

I showed up at work in Farmington too...and the parking lot is empty. Planning to leave at the first sign of snow sticking. Hope I can squeeze in a couple of hours of quality work time.

Surprisingly, Stamford is I think (looking at the extensive WTNH list) the only public school district in CT that didn't close, they opted for early dismissal, they will probably get a lot of flack for that, I already have a couple of Stamford-based friends complaining on Facebook. Some (but not all, others closed, and not based on geography either) Westchester districts went that route too, a bit surprising since it's already snowing and sticking here and quite windy too. I guess quite a few places really fear extra make up days, I've seen many times in the past where districts would all close for storms that I thought they could really pull a delay or early release, this one is the exact reverse of that.

Stay safe everyone!
