On 30 acres of the Meshomasic State Forest (north of Route 2 in Glastonbury), the State Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection has proposed a 55,000 square foot firearms training facility, pistol range, rifle range, shotgun rifle range, 125 parking spaces, etc. (full public scoping notice).

Firearms Facility in Meshomasic State Forest?! (Public Comments due 5/16) | Connecticut Forest & Park Association

Details on the proposal including a 1 story building to be added.
CEQ: Environmental Monitor - Current Issue

Interesting info on the park. It was the 2nd State forest in the country in 1903! 1st for Connecticut.

keep us posted if you hear any updates on this. Is Wiki correct saying it started at 70 acres and now is 9000 acres?

The state forest is 9,000 acres. However, using 30 acres of 9,000 is not the problem. It's where those 30 acres are that has people upset.. More from the local news

I am not against a firearms facility but do question where it is proposed to be built. The site is at the end of Tollgate Road right off Route 2 which is a residential area. To build a 55,000 square foot building (basically a decent sized factory there would be very much out of place. With all the land the state owns you would think they could find a better location. Jay

No, but not near homes or in the middle of a state forest either. Drive down Route 2 and all you see are homes and woods. Then there will be a 55,000 square foot building in the middle of no where. Why? Jay
