I thought too soon. Yesterday I started to wonder if something happened to Cambium, given that he had not posted anything for a few days.

Look and behold with what he comes with!!!! lol

Wow! Looks like my part of the storm pales by comparison 4-6" before it moves on to the east coast! Cool graphics!

Update: Just looked out the window, 10 mins. past this post, snowing like crazy! They said after 4 p.m.!

This is from the RPM model. We don't see these numbers often and some are saying its going to rival the Blizzard of 1978. This will go down in the history books as one of the largest blizzards in New England.

If this comes true, snow drifts will be over 5-7 feet in spots.

Over three feet in spots? Really? Epic for sure....not sure if that is going to happen, guess I am not driving to NY to see my sister's newborn twins Saturday. Think hartford area will get 2 feet? I doubt it but will be some snowstorm nonetheless...I say 13 inches...

Another look at the last GFS and the snow totals. Trying to soak this in.

Here's the link.. 18z GFS Images
Scroll down to Accumulated Snow Depth inches
Pick hour 60-78 which is the Friday-Saturday timeframe now.

Before you mention the blue along the coast, GFS is not high resolution so it doesn't pick up elevation that well. But its possible the coast sees just half foot. I think more.

Hey Camb,

I have a snowmobile reservation in Jackman, ME on Sunday (2 hrs north of Augusta) and I can either:

1) Leave Hartford at noon fri and hope to get up I-95 ahead of the storm

2) Leave between 5 and 8PM on Sat on the backside of it.

Its a 6-7 hr drive, but I dont mind getting there at 2-3AM if need be as I'll just pre arrange a cheap motel.

Which do you think? Or should I totally reschedule for Feb 12 to 13th as I can get those days off work too?

SREF plumes for Waterbury.

This is very easy to use. Zoom in on map and point and click. Make sure you choose "Total SNO" on the left.

Black line is average.. the rest are all members of the SREF model. One shows up to 35". That wont happen.

My arrow shows the intense rise in totals. That means whiteout conditions. Notice the time of it.( fri afternoon/evening) that's when accumulations will go from 3-8" easily and doesn't end there either.

2. But be prepared to come across some messy impassable roads because the storm wont hit Maine until Saturday morning and then back end bands till afternoon. You might be ok if you feel up to the risk.
Everyone needs to be off the roads after noon Friday north of I-84.

Cambium,
Since you are the resident expert on a forum that seems to have a lot of experts (not sarcasm) I figure you are the best one to ask about the potential impacts for the greater Albany, NY-region. I used the link you just posted and it's saying the mean total snowfall of 21.37 and I'm wondering if that's accurate or am I just reading it wrong because I haven't seen anything say that high for albany
