I just have a few questions about New Haven...

Is the State Street Station ever used? I rarely see anyone on the platform as everyone goes to nearby Union Station.

Will the Tweed New Haven Airport ever recruit any new airlines. The only airline is s few flights to Philadelphia. I know it won't become a JFK Airport, but will any legacy carriers and low-coast carriers ever fly there? Will the runways be expanded to accommodate larger Boeings and Airbuses?

Thanks for your time!

State Street is mostly used by Shore Line East and some Metro North trains stop there. I don't Tweed will be getting any shuttle Service. That market is rapidly shrinking along the NEC as Amtrak year after after eats away at the Airlines customer base. Its also becoming to expensive to operate shuttles or regional journeys.

JetBlue and Southwest both have a major presence at Bradley, so I doubt they will be expanding to Tweed.

Tweed's bigger danger is that the FAA will decide it doesn't need a manned control tower. At which point it will stop having any airline flights.

Shoreline East uses it.

Not likely, as they have already made their presence at BDL. Not to mention, the low cost carriers fly Boeings (Southwest) and Airbus (JetBlue) that are too big for Tweed. Currently Tweed only has flights to Philly. Who wants to fly through PHL to other locations? That airport is THE WORST for delays. It is so bad that my office will pay extra to NOT route us through PHL because we always get stuck. They always have low ceiling delays it seems. Tweed may as well be dead to me if you are flying me to PHL.

I vote for no. Tweed is surrounded by dense housing, there isn't much wiggle room and I can't imagine the neighbors wouldn't kick up a stink if larger runways/planes were proposed for Tweed.

Took a train to Philly instead of a flight last time. 4 hours in Business Class on Amtrak was a treat. It was quiet, comfortable, great views, and saved $$$ over a quick plane ride or an Acela that only got in 40 minutes earlier. Sorry but if I'm taking an Acela high speed train, I want high speed and not a 40 minute savings. It should do the trip in at least half the time.

State Street Station is more SLE.

Actually, I read that won't stop the commercial flights. But it would prevent bigger airplanes from flying there.

Tweed has a sad history with airlines trying and withdrawing. There was a time when both Sikorski and Tweed offered significant commuter service.

Tweed has over the past 20 years at times had 737 and BAE146 service to Chicago, CRJ service to Cincinnati, mixed prop service to Newark and service to Washington DC. None of these were profitable enough for the airline(s) to stick with it. United even had mainline 737 service to Tweed (which explains the singular, unused Jetway).

One of the problems is the runways are too short to support a full 737 with significant fuel-- so flights in bad weather, where extra fuel was required, were cancelled.

It seems rather then focusing on Tweed, we should support a massive build-up at Bradley. Things are going the right direction there-- We've added JetBlue and numerous destinations over the past few years. I'd like to see the Amsterdam flight come back-- I used it twice. We do have transcon service to LAX via AA now, and, rumor has it SFO is close behind.

A major problem with Tweed is a handful of East Haven residents that won't allow for expansion. The state should just exercise eminent domain.
