Be careful for a potential scam from this business. We received a bill from a company called Dollar Wise Oil of East Hartford. We never ordered oil from them and never heard of them. I called to tell them they made an error, and the rep immediately said that "Sometimes we make mistakes. Disregard the bill." I told her I wanted the invoice they are sending me to be removed from their system, but she couldn't find any record of our name. What other explanation could there be for this, other than some sort of scam? Should I report this to the state?

Nothing comes up under BBB. Seems like its a real company. No complaints found either. Probably just a simple accounting error? Its good your on top of things. Ask them for free oil delivery for the mistake. Or at least a discount.

Good question! It's a PO box, like many businesses.

If it doesn't match the address they use, someone may be using their name/logo etc to defraud people. If it is their remit to address, then they have some major cajones to send out bills to customers they don't have and then react so nonchalantly about it. The "it happens all the time" response is a disturbing reflection of their apparent lack of organization and record keeping, IMO. Either way, I would alert the Attorney General's office.

I actually use Dollar Wise for our oil. They do not do retrospective billing. It is pay on delivery. So someone must be trying to use their name. Their legitimate website is www.dollarwiseoil.com. Is that who you called?
