Ditto Stylo that the lower Dixwell/Newhallville area is DEFINITELY a worse area than Fair Haven.

If you want to live in New Haven. Get a map and find downtown New Haven, now make a circle around it with a 15 mile radius. 98% of those towns are good places to live.

Some areas are known for (crime related) certain things, but after being in New Haven in and out and all over, you find that most of it stays where it is. Its a slow crawl at best.

As everyone said, the social scene is awesome. Any bar I go to on the weekend, Id say the age range is from 21-50 easily.. There are clubs where a 50 year old would stick out but no one over 25 goes to them lol.

The bars/restaurants are like big mixing pots, all ages, types, colors, languages its nice.

Plus you have NYC and Mohegan Sun/Foxwoods nearly equal distance west and east so you can escape for a night...
I am coming pretty late to this post, but I have to disagree with the statement that pretty much "all" of Fair Haven is unsafe. I am pretty sure that Front Street and Quinnipiac Ave are considered Fair Haven and they are safe, beautiful and on the water.
