Contract is for a year but they could hire me after as well. So basically it sounds like it's between milford, trumbull, shelton, or stratford. I could probably go for $1000/mo but I mainly just wanted to know which areas to avoid or which areas are better to meet people etc.

I'll check out http://www.raveis.com as well. I'm just not sure how to contact people on that site about a listing.

Scratch Trumbull. There are very few apartments, with the exception of Avalon's complex, which is essentially in Bridgeport and over your budget anyway. If nightlife isn't a huge thing for you, focus your search on Shelton. Most Shelton apartments will be closer to Sikorsky than apartments in Stratford will be. And, they'll be cheaper too.

I'll check out connecticut real estate, connecticut homes, massachusetts real estate, massachusetts homes for sale, rhode island real estate, rhode island homes, new york real estate, new york homes, newport homes, newport real estate, vermont homes, new hampshire as well. I'm just not sure how to contact people on that site about a listing.
I would stick to Milford or Stratford for meeting people your age. Trumbull is nice, but very family-orientated and not many rentals. Shelton is nice too, and probably a little more young people than Trumbull - but lacks nightlife and a social scene. Of course you can always drive for that. It's not a big area. Having access to the train is nice though, especially if you can live within walking distance.

Milford has a much larger nightlife and town-community scene for you to meet new people. I don't have specifics but I think there are also a larger number of rentals in Milford than Stratford. Also, because of the down economy, I think the are many folks who rent out actual homes -- an alternative to selling their homes at a lower value.

Where are you from? If within a driveable distance, I would suggest spending a day scouting both Stratford and Milford. Also, I would also agree with your decision to use a realtor since he/she can better guide you to specific rentals and point out the pros and cons of that neighborhood.

People know where Sikorsky Aircraft is. It is just north of the Merritt Parkway (Route 15) on the Housatonic River. It is a monmouth building that has been a major emploer in the region for over 55 years.

I do agree it would be best to stay as close to your job so Stratford and Milford would be good towns to consider. I would also consider Shelton which is just north of the Sikorsky plant site. There are a lot of apartments there as well. I would suggest though that if you do find a place, consider posting the neighborhood here before committing to it. Some of the less expensive parts of Stratford (near the Bridgeport line) could be a problem. Good luck, Jay

Yep, definitely don't rule Shelton out. My friend lived in a rental home in downtown Shelton (walking distance to Danny O's - one of the popular bars in Shelton) and she raved about the house, the cheap rent, nice location, etc. Commute would be amazing to Sikorsky. I'd reckon to say that Shelton's nightlife is better than Stratford's, but it still doesn't hold a candle to Milford.
