Hello all, my Husband and I are considering a move to CT and both work in midtown. I am looking for a larger colonial between 350-450 on a decent sized lot. We are willing to commute in order to have what we want. We would also love to be in or near a town square, or quaint town area with shops and restaurants. We would be using Metro North and are looking at Stratford- any recs of which ones to look in? Thanks!!!!

Stratford is an affordable working class town in eastern Fairfield County. It has some pretty nice areas. I don't know anything about schools. Have you looked at Milford? I think the train commute from Milford is about 85 minutes. The train station is downtown where there are small shops and restaurants. I know there are many quaint neighborhoods in the immediate area. There also is plenty of shopping on route 1 along with a large mall. You might be able to find what you want in your price range if you're inland a few miles.

You won't find a larger colonial between 35-450 that's nice or doesn't need work or on a decent sized lot!? How far of a commute are you willing to do? There's a 2200 sq. ft. colonial on 1 acre in Monroe. (it's across the street from me!) You'd have to drive down to Bridgeport (15-20 min.) then catch the train from there.
Try Monroe or Trumbull for better price range.
I'm always looking on the shoreline in that price range for exactly what you want and it's not out there.

Stratford or Milford would probably be your best bet but I am not sure you are going toget what you want in the price range you indicated. Anything with in a reasonable commuting distance to New York will be pricey unless you consider Bridgeport. I doubt though that you will find the property you want there since it is a city. You do not indicate that schools are improtant so Bridgeport may be an option. Jay
