Greenwich/Rye?
Hi Everyone,
We are relocating and are considering Greenwich and Rye, Ny as possibilities. We have visited and love both towns. Could anyone offer any insight as to the similarities/differences in these towns especially as far as friendliness and attitude go.....We have two young children and would like to raise them in as down to earth, wholesome a place as possible....Are we on the right track or should we look elsewhere?
My husband would be commuting to both the city as well as NJ. We also looked at Westfield, NJ which we liked alot but are leaning toward Rye......Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!!!!

I do not know a lot about Rye, but I will say that Greenwich is a great place to live if you can afford it. It has so much to offer including excellent schools, great shopping and fabulous restaurants. There is a good reason that it is considered one of the most desireable suburbs in the country and has long been sought out by the wealthy as a place to live. Jay

Rye is very similar to Greenwich in terms of affluence and demographics. Rye school system is very good and I would say, one of the best in Westchester County. Westfield is also an affluent suburb, but not as affluent as Greenwich or Rye. If I had to choose, I would choose Rye over Westfield. I am not a big fan of New Jersey, even though Westfield is a great community as well.

The major advantages are probably from a convenience perspective. You'll find MTA travel to NYC much easier from Greenwich than from Rye - express trains generally stop at Greenwich, but from Rye you'll probably get only the NYC Local = longer time. Rye/Rye Brook are all in the happening parts of Westchester County. You've great shopping spots, good restaurants, outing spots, etc - and the same also goes for Greenwich. What you might want to do (if you don't have any specifics) is compare the tax rates. If these are non-issues, then either Rye/Greenwich are almost equally desirable.

If you can afford Greenwich, I say go for it. It's one of the most desirable suburbs in the country and has an excellent quality of life.
