Hi all,

Does anyone have experience with the commute from Monroe/Trumbull area to Norwalk and also to Danbury?

My wife and I are considering our first home in that area (yes we're still looking for anyone who's seen my previous posts :-) ). I work at Merritt 7 in Norwalk, she works in Danbury so Monroe seems like it'd comparable commutes and also get a very nice house for our price range.

Only concern of mine is getting to Norwalk as my work hours put me into peak rush hour. Various map programs have told me anything from 35 minutes to 55.

Also we've no idea at all what her commute to Danbury would be like. Again map sites say anything from 30 minutes to 40 minutes.

Would love to get perspective from anyone who's done these routes.

Thanks!

-GG

Trumbull will be more convenient to Norwalk while Monroe will be more convenient to Danbury. Monroe to Danbury really won't be that bad, depending on the area of Danbury. I would say anywhere from 20-30 minutes. To Norwalk I would say about 30-40 minutes during rush hour, maybe more in the afternoon. The Merritt really gets pretty bad.

While both Trumbull and Monroe are great towns, have you considered other communities? Redding and Ridgefield, while you'll get less house for your money, provide a far easier [back road] commute to both cities. Redding is very rural but is stunningly beautiful. Ridgefield a little less rural but very convenient for your commute.

What's your price range, and have you already decided on Monroe/Trumbull?

Our price range is ~$350k.

We have indeed looked at Ridgefield and Redding but can't find a house in our range that wouldn't require a lot of work put into it. (We've been shown every house in both towns from ListingBook that fit our criteria :-). Redding also is a bit more rural than we are looking for.

The commute to Norwalk will be a little harder, but doable. In your price range, I agree with the Monroe decision. Depending on where in Monroe, take 59 to 136 and skip the Fairfield/Westport section of the Merritt.

In that range, you're on the right track. I would also suggest you take a look at Bethel. A few minutes to Danbury and closer to Norwalk than Monroe. Plus, you can take scenic back roads and avoid any traffic (Route 53). Monroe is very nice, but Bethel is more convenient for both commutes.

Yeah, Bethel is a great choice and a little cheaper too.

I would recommend Bethel for an easier commute to Norwalk.
