I'm from Ohio, today is my second day in Farmington. I'm looking for a supermarket with a good selection and reasonable prices. Idk where to go? I'm used to be able to go to krogers of a super walmart. Any recommendations?
The big chain supermarkets in the area are Stop & Shop (based in Boston), Big Y (based in the Springfield, MA area), Price Chopper and Shop Rite. There's also Stew Leonard's along the Berlin Turnpike (US Route 5/CT Route 15) in Newington (they're more of a specialty market, though). Walmart opened some type of a market recently in nearby West Hartford. There's another local chain called Geisler's. However, I've never shopped there (mostly east of the Connecticut River).
There is a Stop & Shop right on Route 4 in the Unionville section of Farmington. If you want something better than a national chain store there is Highland Park Market on Route 10.

Farmington proper has only one grocery store (Highland Park) that I know of...you probably want to head east on Rt 4 to the Stop & Shop just over the West Hartford line, or west on Rt 6 into Bristol, where's there's lots of stuff (a commercial strip probably more similar to what you're used to from the Midwest). Although as a former Midwesterner, I'll tell you that there's nothing like Cub Foods or Meijer out here. My parents who still live there still complain about grocery prices here when they visit us!
As the other poster mentioned, if you have time, check out the Wal*Mart neighborhood market in West Hartford. It's a bit hard to find for a newcomer, but we've been impressed with the prices & selection.

Thanks Roger! I completely forgot about that place. I haven't shopped their either. Despite the closeness, I'm never usually in Farmington unless I'm on I-84. It's mostly Berlin and Newington for me here.

I'm guessing that you'll have to look in West Hartford and New Britain for your supermarkets. ShopRite tends to have the most "reasonable" prices of the full-line grocery stores. That said, i prefer Big Y over ShopRite and Stop&Shop. Aldi, PriceRite(owned by ShopRite) and Trader Joe's have a more limited selection, but you might like their prices if you're really cost conscious. I think there's also Save A Lot either in West Hartford or New Britain. No experience with the chain, but it's supposed to be a discount grocer. Price Chopper is another discount grocer a little further away(Bristol and Newington).

This is correct. You don't have to leave town to find a grocery store. The Stop and Shop in Simsbury is larger and may be just as convenient, depending on where you live. There is also a Big Y in Plainville.
