Now, they told me that the job is also typically 40 hours a week and the office is a ghost town by 5:30 pm. And I am entitled to about 5 weeks of PTO per year. But others on this forum stated that people are not likely to build a successful career from a 40-hr a week job. So now what?!

The job is very close to the train station, too.

Anyway, I have two days to make a decision.

I was kind of hoping that the Fort Lauderdale job would be an option, but it doesn't seem like it. They just sent me an e-mail saying that they will postpone the hiring process. Like I have time to wait around for that.
I would think twice about this; it sounds a little weak on the PTO. Forty hours a week? Thats insane, i wouldn't take those slave hours. I just read an article that said gays in that part of CT are fleeing to Ft Lauderdale...Nuts, isn't it??

Between, like Stratford, wouldn't be a bad commute at all. And like 1/3rd the cost of Stamford to buy a place.

(I'm talking buying, not renting)

No. I would actually suggest Black Rock over Stratford for a buyer like nep. Or just over the BR line in Fairfield.

Can we just make a "Nep" sticky at the top of the forum?

Lol....well it is true that there are no gay bars in FFC whatsoever (although I think there is technically a small one in Danbury). But yes, it would be nice to have access to New Haven as well as NYC in that regard. Plus, FFC has about an equal sized gay population as Hartford County, so it's not completely devoid of gays. But it still might be tough to date someone from NYC, unless they live near Grand Central or something. Honestly, I don't really have much of a choice in this matter. Fort Lauderdale is no longer an option, and having been unemployed for 6 months now, it's urgent that I should take the best option I have at this time.

If I do in fact accept the offer and move to FFC, I have one thing to say....I will miss the real New England with its charming town centers, stone walls, beautiful landscape, etc. Things that FFC seems to be sorely lacking, as it is more NYC inspired.

Uh, not at all. Do some driving around in Greenwich, New Canaan, North Stamford, Wilton, etc. Get out a little and explore your surroundings before making statements like that.

And stop you're damned whining, would ya?

Well IMO the character of those FFC towns vary compared to say towns in eastern CT. I prefer the depressed appearance of eastern CT towns, for example, such as Sprague, Killingly, Plainfield, etc. By contrast, the town center of New Canaan is beautiful, but it just looks so manicured and seems to lack in the quaintness department. Basically, the town centers in FFC just look like a lot of money was poured into them, whereas the town centers of eastern CT appear naturally quaint, due to history and the normal course of business. But, there are no jobs in eastern CT, so I have to resort to FFC
