2-4 days.....since its a critical corridor , or I can see them doing Emergency repairs on the out of service tracks to put them back in service , which involves putting some track back and turning the energy on. If this is not done , expect 95 to be worse then a slow drip of Maple Sap off a christmas tree. And Air Train will be strained , they have cut service between New England and NY over the years since Amtrak and buses has siphoned 80% of it...

Hopefully CT will get its act together and shut down the remain bad areas and get federal money to upgrade the entire system , otherwise expect more incidents like that. There are 4 Bridges in the state that need to be replaced...
Absolutely, the state has been completely ignoring the maintenance needs of the rail infrastructure. Penny wise and pound foolish, because it's going to cost a lot more to fix later all at once than than little by little as we go. And then you have the possible accidents, luckily no one got killed yesterday

Thought this video was pretty interesting regarding what it takes to derail a train. I wont say anything about the video. Just keep watching.

And just where are we going to get the money to pay for these new rails?

Anyway, this freaks me out a bit...I'll stick to I-95 thanks.

Smile bad news for commuters

I did not know anything about this till about 9 pm when I heard it on the all-news NYC radio station. I had been up in New Hampshire and Mass. all day, but on the way back heard that there was a 15-mile back-up on I-95 in the Fairfield area. I really sympathize with people who have to travel to NYC and beyond in the next few days.

A good day for highway commuters, I guess. Usually it's a 25+ mile backup on a Friday afternoon.

Usually my husband would have been on the northbound train that was part of this, but he got a new job 3 weeks ago - thank god. I think a pregnant friend of mine would have been on it, though. I need to check in with her.

There is certainly a lot more people on the highways today especially the Merritt going North today, felt like an evening rush hour commute today around noon.

Okay, you should *probably* compare the number of accidents that have happened on 95 vs. the number of accidents on Metro North before making a statement like that...
