Don't judge Connecticut by a few affluent towns. There are plenty of middle class communities here, just like any other state. Do you judge all of California by Beverly hills? Or all of Florida by Palm Beach? No, it just does not make sense. Connecticut has a wide range of places to live, just like other states. Some towns are more expensive and more exclusive but most of the state is not. Jay

Zoning unconstitutional? What are you talking about?

If people don't like zoning they should move to a state like Texas. Texas is booming now but I am sure it will be a joy to live there with a couple more decades of uncontrolled growth. In the Northeast zoning is a way to control the town's development - we do not all want to live in overcrowded Queens or Manhattan.

Read Carefully. I said the zoning laws, many times are applied unconstitutionally and that is very different from stating that zoning code is unconstitutional or "illegal" as you mentioned. Zoning laws are constitutional with plenty of case law to support them. What I said was that if people would like to successfully stand up to these zoning codes or laws, they need to look no further than the Fundamental Orders drafted in 1638 or maybe Connecticut's first Constitution both of which were in place long before the zoning enabling act was introduced . Many zoning case decisions have been overturned, hundreds in fact by using a defense based on questioning if the code, ordnance or law was applied within the scope of the power that the constitution vested in the government in the first place. It is a right to have and to hold property.Freedom in its crudest form. Government many times interferes with your access to that right and therefore robs you of a freedom .
