newyork2050 is on a distinguished road
Default Stamford Connecticut Ave.

What part of Stamford is this? (East, West?) How is that part of town?

I am assuming you're referring to Connecticut Avenue on the West Side. It is actually a neighborhood of low income housing projects that have been privatized and are populated by two classes of people: Long term project-dwellers and naive yuppies from out of state who think they're falling into a great deal. Good luck if you're planning on moving there.

That property where the old abandoned school was at the corner of Havemeyer and CT Avenue, now has luxury townhomes under construction--a very large project. All along Havemeyer, small, 1950s and 60s era homes are being torn down and replaced with "McMansions." This area still has that housing project there--but I imagine its days may be numbered.

I would not count on it. Public housing in Connecticut is rarely (if ever) torn down and replaced with anything but more public housing. Jay

Really? Well, I do know that the site where the Avalon apartments sit right next to I-95--just past exit 6 (Harvard Ave)--had a really bad housing project there for years. Was that public--because they were torn down and replaced with market-rate apartments. (Don't know how it was done)
Also, there is a plan to tear down 2 of the 3 very-1960s looking highrise housing projects (I think it is public also) in downtown Stamford, to be replaced with the Ritz-Carlton project. Did developers side-step some procedures or do you think there's a loophole? Or, are these sites not public housing? Thanks

Those are definitely not Avalon apartments, if we're thinking of the same thing. That's Southwood Square (formerly known as Southfield Village), on Harvard Avenue just north of Exit 6. The village was torn down because crime and living conditions deteriorated so much, and then most of its residents were put into the newly renamed and rebuilt Southwood Square. There was actually a riot there several months ago that resulted in five arrests and three officers being treated at Stamford Hospital for minor injuries.

The situation at Southwood is basically the same as Conn Ave. Yuppies can more in there if they want, but they have to share the 'hood.

Ah, yeah, that's the same complex. I was thinking Avalon, but guess I got it wrong. So they are low income too huh?

I'm pretty sure it's still mostly low income rental units housing the old Southfield Village residents, with some moderate-income and market rate units thrown in there. It was transformed using a "Hope VI" HUD grant. There are still problems with "feuds" between Southwood Square and South End teens, stray bullets, et cetera.
