Its a Saturday...no worries...do the Tap...best route by a longshot.

Well it is probably too late but I would still suggest the OP or others avoid the Tappan Zee. Traffic has been a bear in southwestern Connecticut on Saturdays and I would suspect the same on I-87. Why take a chance? JMHO, Jay

Each his own. ...I'd take the tap on a weekend rather than travel all the way up through Scranton. Did this trip for 5 years 3 times a year from Charlotte.

I just completed my trip from Ct to Florida.I did use route posted above,Tappan Zee at around 9 AM Saturday minimal with traffic moving o'k.I 78 o'k to I 81,the disaster was all of 78 was heading south, traffic came to a standstill and took a long time to get moving. No provision for traffic to enter I 81,same for I 16The next roadblock was I 16,Macon traffic brought I 95 to a halt (2 hours of stop and go) and never straightened out till 3 lanes in Georgia.I was surprised that traffic was generally light.
The main problem were the weavers at 85 MPH in congested area's causing traffic slowdowns. The total miles to Lake City 1250,about 100-150 longer.

We always enjoy coming up through the Delaware Water Gap heading into Newburg, NY and picking up Rt 84 into Danbury. It's really pretty and rarely has extremely heavy traffic. We've driven that route many times. The only prick in the route is having to travel through Waterbury, CT. It's always having some type of construction.

A jet from Danbury airport is probably the best route.

When I went down to Lancaster last March I took 287 to 78, so I'd go that route, except follow 78 to 81 S and take that to Harrisburg
