Yes, looks like it's off per the Courant:

UTC's Hayes Says Merger With Honeywell 'Ain't Gonna Happen' - Hartford Courant

But the point about where the HQ is located is irrelevant. There aren't a lot of Honeywell jobs in Morris Plains, NJ, just like there weren't a lot of GE jobs in Fairfield. The point I was making was echoed by BobNJ--in the name of "synergies" there would have been a lot of bloodletting, much of which would have come from layoffs in high cost regions.

UTSC will be unveiling its new $8 million advanced manufacturing laboratory at the UTC Aerospace complex in Windsor Locks. This is part of UTC's major facilities improvement program that will pump hundreds of million into Connecticut facilities. The ribbon cutting is set for Thursday. Good news. Jay

Agreed, and all the other synonyms used, such as duplicity in operations. In mergers-they all mean layoffs.

And there you have it--press release from Honeywell indicating they had already figured on $3.5 billion in cost synergies coming out of the merger!

I would bet each will likely attempt to merge with someone else, achieving tremendous savings the same way. Since both knew this would not fly, it seems when corps do this (aim at an undoable) they are signaling they are looking to partner. At their size-merging is the fastest and easiest way to grow revenue and earnings via cost cuts.

I think Aetna is staying in Connecticut. Though they "might" move out of Hartford (which is kinda unlikely) there's a chance they may move to GE's old headquarters which mean they'll be closer to NYC and other large markets. Obamacare is causing all these large insurance companies merge and the Humana/Aetna won't be the last.

I also suspect Ct will keep a presence in Ct, and insurance mergers and potential job losses are frankly, not the fault of local Ct pols, but rather Obamacare induced. So these discussions of impact IMO differ 180 degrees from GE hq, Boehringer, etc..where these corps responded to local economic conditions.
