Default Buy a 2 br apartment in Waterbury?

Hi,

I have a younger sister that is a social worker in Southington. Currently she is living in Hartford, not sure the exact location. She is looking to purchase a 2 bedroom apartment in the surrounding area. So far she has looked at apartments in Bristol and Waterbury. Bristol is really nice but she cannot get one for under 100K. Waterbury is cheaper but most need a lot of work and updating.

Could you recommend any other surrounding town withing a 20-30 minute commute into Southington with a price range of about 100K or less? My co-worker suggested Cheshire and Woodbury. My sister and I were raised in Stamford, CT so we're not very familiar with the areas of Northern CT.

Thanks!
Tony

A condo outside of Waterbury for under 100K that does not need updating is pretty hard to find. Bristol is actually the most affordable area you will find at that price.

100k does not get you much in Connecticut, especially hard to get 2 bedrooms in good condition. You would have to live in one of the less-desirable cities where there can be some issues. Bristol is probably the best place since it is a nice small city that does not have a lot of urban issues and crime. Other cities to consider would be Meriden, New Britain or Waterbury, but she will need to be careful with location. Another option may be Middletown. Jay

Thank you for the info! I will have her talk to the realtor to find something in Bristol! How far is Woodbury from Southington? Is Woodbury a good town?

I doubt there would be anything for $100k in Woodbury. It is a nicer town with pricer homes. Jay

Yeah you won't find anything at that price in Woodbury! I'm looking for a place myself and have found some pretty decent condos in Waterbury. Try Kaynor Dr. or Perkins Ave. in Waterbury. Otherwise, New Britain has some under $100k.

The Statewide MLS shows the following:

0 - Woodbury
1 - Bristol
0 - Southington
0 - Wolcott
0 - Cheshire
0 - Plainville
3 - Meriden
1 - Middletown
68 - Waterbury

Unfortunately, it's not a very realistic price. As for Waterbury, do your research.
