I was curious if anyone could shed some light on my situation.

I left a job this past January that I had been at for 5 years for a temporary position in the environmental field (it was the first job in that field I have been able to land. I studied the field in college). Unfortunately, this position was temporary and will be ending soon. Would I be eligible to file for unemployment benefits in CT?

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!

Check with the Department of Labor. It really depends on how your company classified you. Were you eligible for benefits as part of the job? If so you are likely eligible but still check with the Department of Labor. 5 years is pretty long for a temporary job. Jay

The OP said they left their job of 5 years for the temporary job.

I don't really know the answer to the OP' s question, though. How many hours a week did you work?

I worked 40 hours per week at my previous job and 35 hours a week at my current temporary job.

I am an Independent Contrator and the companies I do work for send me a 1099 form at the end of the year. Has your company been sending you a 1099 form for your taxes? If not it seems to me like you were an employee of the company and then you should be able to get unemployment benefits. If bet if you call the unemployment office they will tell you right away if you can get them.

If your current company has been taking taxes out and not sending you a 1099 I would say you had yourself a real bonafide job.

OP; contact the Dept. of Labor.

You left your last job which probably means you can't collect on that one. On the current job, you have to have worked a certain number of quarters per year to be eligible for unemployment. Figuring that out can be confusing.
