Hello. I got a job in Somers, NY. I will be traveling from I-84W from Exit 11 (Route 34) to I-684S to Exit 8 in the morning and arrive at my office at 9:00. In the evening, I will get on I-684N to Exit 9E (I-84E) to Exit 11 (Route 34) at 5:00. So in the morning, I plan to leave at 8:15-8:30 AM and leave my office at 5:00 PM and be home by 5:30-5:45 PM. But how long will the ride take with rush-hour traffic M-F. Is Rte 6 or Downtown Danbury a good alternate route?

Copy and paste from an earlier response to a post from someone near Southbury who was commuting to somewhere near Goldens Bride.. I'd imagine your morning commute will be similar, but perhaps 5-8 minutes less. Your evening commute will stink though. Height of rush hour for sure, where southbury poster's was not...

Edit to include earlier cut & paste of what was included to southbury poster...

I think you will be just fine on your afternoon commute -- you'll be ahead of the heavy rush hour traffic, and so you will miss the regular 684/84 interchange mess. You should have no trouble making it to 84 from exit 6 in westchester in about 15 minutes or less, which would put you at the 4:15/4:20 timeframe. (i think the connector to 84 is still decent at that time). I would guesstimate the second leg of your commute (84 @ 684 to southbury) to be about 25 minutes give or take, for a total pm commute of 40-45 minutes. Mornings from southbury to GB will be trickier - 1 hour, 1 hour 5 minutes is my guess...

My quote from another thread: "In the mornings, it seems to get back up at the bridge over the Housatonic and usually lasts until about the merger with 7 (exit 3). In the evening, it gets clogged up at the 684/84/6 interchange and lasts until about exit 7 or 8 in CT; that's when you should get off 84 and transfer to 6. No matter how backed up 84 is, get back on at exit 4 (there will be 2 Dunkin Donuts on each side). The lights in Danbury are painfully long, especially closer to downtown, and there's no clear/fast way to zig zag through the city."

DO NOT take the side streets through Danbury.
