Several years ago, I worked at a recording studio in the south end, working all sorts of crazy hours. Very, very ****ty area. It was near a hiphop club that had been shut down due to shootings/etc several times. My car was broken into on the street 3 or 4 times by a crackhead, and there were syringes and stuff found at the front of our place regularly.

That said, despite coming/going at all hours for 3-4 years, I was never bothered by anyone or physically approached.

How many people you know out of the thousands that never had a problem? You must know a lot of people to make that kind of claim. Didn't I say a lot of companies have their own security to protect that employees, I know one of the insurers I used to work at had security guys at public streets watching people walk from the parking lot to the buildings.

If you think hartford is no different than any other city in this country pretty much proves the bias opinions here. People don't think of hartford as mostly ghetto for no reason. Again, the numbers of assaults and robberies are just make up numbers? or maybe because it didn't happen to someone you know, those are exaggerated?

Do you actually know anyone who has lived and grew up in the hartford ghetto that knows the streets and seen the things that has happened and actually know what really goes on? Someone that has no agenda or political views.

You are speaking like a true suburbanite who has little knowledge of what an urban area is really all about. I never said there were no issues, I said that no one I know that works in Hartford has had a problem there and I do know a number of people that work there. They do not go to problem parts of the city but they do frequent the better restaurants and shops in the city.

Sorry but every urban area has issues PERIOD. The people that think Hartford is all ghetto are basing it on inexperience or on articles they read or news reports which sensationalize things. The crime rates published are skewed because Hartford and other Connecticut cities are small in area and only include the core urban area. I am not saying things do not happen there, I am saying it is no worse than other cities. Jay

Really, the people who think Hartford is all ghetto is basing it on inexperience? and you are basing your thinkings on what?

So now the crime stats are skewed and sensationalized by the news media. LOL.
Man, talk about being in a state of denial. LOL

I already said, I worked in hartford for many years, traveled the roads daily, pretty much know all the streets inside and out. Not to mention worked with people who grew up in hartford and tells me all the real things that goes on.

No , I am saying that people who think Hartford is all ghetto or worst than any other city are basing that on inexperience or lack of knowledge of what urban life is like. Are you saying that other urban areas don't have the issues Hartford has? Is so I would like to know which ones. Jay

Never have I said other urban areas don't have issues like Hartford does, some probably as crime ridden / mostly ghetto as hartford or even worst, but it's irrelevant. All I did was emphasized that Hartford is crime ridden and mostly ghetto and need to be very alert to be safe.

Jay is right. There are really bad parts of Hartford and the city has its struggles, but it's nowhere near as bad as some other cities in the country. The small land area throws the statistics off. Most of Detroit makes Hartford look like paradise, at 142 square miles vs. 17. And some neighborhoods of Detroit are far worse than even the worst parts of Hartford.

Newark isn't all bad , Downtown / University Heights , North Ward and East Ward are nice and have low crime rates... The violence is in the South and West Wards.... Trenton also has nice areas , so Don't judge a book by its cover aka the Suburbanite stereotypes and fears...... The Ironbound section of Newark draws millions of tourists and Suburbanites each year...various venues in Newark and Trenton do the same. I know that both Harrisburg and Springfield have nice areas with low crime. Even Camden has a nice , clean , safe area....
