I don't get it. We haven't had snow in like a month now. It's practically been melted down for weeks. Why are people complaining about it like it's still snowing every other day? This winter hasn't been THAT snowy. But it sure has been extra COLD.

Well, April first is coming up. April 1 snowstorms are not unkown. They do happen, some years.

I sure am glad for spring this year, though. The winter started out pretty mild, but when that nasty cold hit, it just seemed to keep on a-hittin'. I felt like the bottom side in an MMA ground-pounding session. It was brutal. Just seemed like we couldn't get any relief.

And, you know, that is odd, because we did have that exceptionally warm weather in January. REALLY warm. I think it was the number of mornings I got up to see the thermometer somewhere close to 0.

Where I am, today was the first day I felt like it was acting spring-like. So nice, and I was so glad.

I always say it can't snow now, it's too late for snow, I forbid it to snow. And then it snows.

I'll just say that I would rather not have snow.

Odds favor next Tues-Wed as our last shot at any snow until at least late fall, though as someone else said on rare occasion April snows have happened......

Agree. Obviously odds are thinning out now. Quick stat, In April 1996 Bridgeport got 11.5" of snow.

Windsor Locks seen snow in April 26 times in last 64 yrs. 14" fell in 1982.

March 25-26, 2014 Storm Update:

A look at the 00z Canadian, GFS, and EURO Wednesday morning. Amazing and crazy to see 5 days out. They are all agreeing on snow and a deep NorEaster! Canadian is insane AGAIN. Even the GFS says 0.70" for Groton of all snow! Euro is now furthest out over the Atlantic which before it was the closest.

VALID 12Z MON MAR 24 2014 - 12Z FRI MAR 28 2014

...NOR'EASTER BOMB INDICATED OFF THE MID-ATLANTIC COAST LATE
TUESDAY NIGHT...

WITH THE REESTABLISHMENT OF CROSS-POLAR FLOW INTO NORTH AMERICA
DURING THE NEXT FEW DAYS, BAROCLINICITY WILL MARKEDLY INCREASE.
THE LATE-MARCH SUN CONTINUES TO WARM AREAS SOUTH OF THE POLAR
FRONT, WITH THE INFUSION OF NEARLY UNMODIFIED ARCTIC AIR INTO THE
NORTHERN TIER OF STATES. THIS THERMAL CONTRAST IS, OF COURSE, PART
AND PARCEL OF THE JET STREAM, WHICH IN TURN PROVIDES THE
BACKGROUND ENERGY FOR THE PERTURBATIONS WENDING THROUGH THE FLOW.
SOME OF THE DEEPEST EXTRATROPICAL CYCLONES IN MODERN
RECORD-KEEPING HAVE AFFECTED THE CONTIGUOUS UNITED STATES DURING
THE MONTH OF MARCH--THEIR GENESIS AFFORDED BY THE MONTH'S NATURAL
BAROCLINIC INSTABILITY.

ONCE SUCH PERTURBATION IS PROGGED TO GROW VIGOROUSLY AS IT LIFTS
UP THE SOUTHEAST COAST TUESDAY MORNING, THEN BOMB OFF THE
MID-ATLANTIC COAST TUESDAY NIGHT WHEN THE JET STRENGTHENS VIA AN
INJECTION OF ARCTIC AIR FROM THE MIDWEST. MANY MODELS--INCLUDING
THE 00Z/21 GFS--DEEPEN THE OCEAN STORM BELOW 970MB NEAR THE
ATLANTIC BENCHMARK OF 40N/70W WEDNESDAY MORNING. FOR THIS
PARTICULAR SET OF MANUAL PROGS, RELIED ON THE MOST RECENT ECENS
MEAN FOR A BEARING, SINCE NOT ALL THE GUIDANCE WAS YET ON THE SAME
PAGE WITH THE PARTICULARS OF THE CYCLONE. THE ECENS MEAN HAS SHOWN
HIGH SKILL AT THE MEDIUM RANGE WITH SURFACE PRESSURES, AND SEEMS
TO OFTEN ARRIVE AT A STABLE SOLUTION A DAY OR SO SOONER THAN MUCH
OF THE OTHER GLOBAL NUMERICAL GUIDANCE.

THE EAST-COAST CYCLONE HAS THE POTENTIAL TO PRODUCE LATE-SEASON
HEAVY SNOWFALL OVER A WIDE SWATH OF REAL ESTATE FROM VIRGINIA TO
NEW ENGLAND; THAT IS A GENERALITY AT THIS POINT. MUCH REMAINS IN
TERMS OF REFINING THE FORECAST STATE BY STATE. ANOTHER HIGH-IMPACT
FACTOR WILL BE THE POWERFUL WINDS GENERATED BY THIS SPRAWLING,
INTENSE CIRCULATION, ALONG WITH HIGH SEAS, BEACH BATTERY, COASTAL
FLOODING, AND SO FORTH. AGAIN, AT THIS POINT, SUCH SENSIBLE
WEATHER EFFECTS ARE SIMPLY ATTENDANT TO THE POTENTIAL OF SUCH A
STORM.

THE WEST WILL BE A TALE OF TWO REGIONS, WITH THE SOUTHWEST
CONTINUING A HIGH-N-DRY STREAK, AND THE NORTHWEST BACK IN THE
THICK OF ONSHORE FLOW. UNTIL THE OVERALL PATTERN RELAXES OR
RESHUFFLES, WHAT YOU SEE IS WHAT YOU GET IN THE WEST.

There's the weird case of April 1, 1997.....NYC got a mix, immediate northern suburbs a couple of inches, then it increased as you went thru CT into the Boston area, the latter getting an incredible 2 feet!

1982 the entire tri-state area and most of CT as well as upstate NY through the Albany area got close to and over a foot of snow on April 6. Most areas in the tri-state area through southern New England did get a few inches of snow on April 7, 2003, the last noteworthy April snowstorm I can think of. I remember it not sticking well to the street and cars though, only to the grass. I also remember them hyping it to be like the 1982 storm and as such both me and my wife took off from work and kept our then 1 1/2 year old son from day care for the day in case of an "emergency" since she was 6-7 months pregnant with our daughter (we both had big "opposing direction" commutes from southern Westchester back then, I was working up in Peekskill and she in Norwalk).
