Hopefully low ceiling will accompany it so I can go flying!

5 days left in May. I'm ready to say what I said with the historic cold... Nobody alive today experienced a May this dry.

Only 1 out of last 144 yrs had a drier May in NYC. (1903 with 0.30"). Currently 0.32".

Hartford (BDL) 0.60" is the driest May for Hartford area. . 110yrs

Concord 0.10" is driest on record. 112 yrs

Boston 0.31" is 2nd driest 142 yrs

Albany 0.31" is 2nd driest. 141 yrs

Bridgeport 0.50" 2nd driest

Maine in the Top 10 also

Here's a graphic I put together.

Still 5 days left and 1 thunderstorm can ruin the stats but most likely end up in Top 10 at least. We'll see. I'll update and include temps as well once we're done

I wonder if you can find out stats for 1991 to compare. In Central Park (and I assume most of the Northeast) it is the hottest May on record (this one at least there will probably finish #2 or #3). I note this because of an interesting side note regarding that record (at least for Central Park). This May is probably going to go down as the fewest Heating Degree Days in May (a measure of how much each day averages below 65 degrees for those not in the know), but 1991 blew us out of the water in Cooling Degree Days (a similar measure of how much each day averages above 65 degrees).

So I wonder if we had more 80+ degree highs in 1991. #2 in NYC is actually way back in 1880, all I know about it is that there are actually quite a few daily record highs in the mid-upper 90s from that year.

It must suck living in groton where it never seems to warm up and summer takes forever to arrive. It's even worse in coastal Rhode Island. ON THE BEACH in RI it's still only at 59 today with a stiff onshore breeze to make things even cooler. Insane. Not sure how people enjoy going to the beach with these type of temps. And the water temp is in the mid 50s.

It's frustrating. Really hot inland, but cool at the beach where you'd WANT it to be hot.

Decided to split some wood before the storms get closer.

Moving a 700 pound log is not easy. Had lift and maneuver onto the plate of the machine so it can do its thing.

Dewpoint 65° I was dripping in no time. Good work out. I hate to stay still but have to be in A/C to recharge myself now.

Looking at the radar, looks like warnings are out in Western NY. Still about 2 hours+ away from the CT border, by that time we'll se if the line holds

I also took advantage of it being cloudy here in the CT panhandle.

Yup, I know some folks that went to the beach and they needed a sweatshirt last weekend. Air temp was 70s but the breeze was cold off those 50s water temps.

Water such a big body and takes so much energy to change temps that we have to remember there were chunks of ice breaking off even in March. Its taking its time this year EVEN with one of the warmest Mays on record.
