Default power lines in Brooklyn CT

We're looking at a nice house in Brooklyn but it's pretty near to the high voltage power lines which travel from around Middletown up through Windham county. You can actually see them from the mapquest satellite map.

Does anyone have any input on life near power lines?

Or any other info on the CT power lines... How long have those lines been there? Voltage/current specs? Pending maintenance or upgrades, any sort of controversy, etc.

Any other opinions or info about Brooklyn or Canterbury area would be really helpful.

Thanks!

We are also relocating to CT and found 2 "perfect" homes for us, until we realized they were near high voltage power lines. My husband did some research and found that all that data linking the power lines to cancer is inconclusive if you are more than 300 ft away from the power lines, but did show some correlation if closer than 300 ft. However, both my kids play outside alot, and the space they would play in would be very close to the power lines.

We decided it just wasn't worth the risk for us. We may just be "nervous nellies", but I just can't stomach the notion that where we chose to live could make our kids sick. And since there is so much on the market right now, why buy a home near a high voltage powerline?

Friends of ours recently bought a home next to power lines. They said they researched it and found that there was no correlation to cancer living near these lines. Knowing them I think they wouldn't have bought if there was even the slightest chance of an issue. Jay

We used to live in Norwalk, and there were a few nearby homes literally next to high voltage power line towers, they were in the homeowner's yards. I was amazed that people were willing to live so close to them. Whether or not they are a health issue, they are unsightly. Many people are reluctant to move so close to them, regardless of whether or not they are truly a health hazard. So if you do buy a home next to high voltage power lines, selling your home in the future could be more of a challenge. Just something to consider.
