If you like your job, maybe you can try out a new apartment in the area and see if you wind up with quiet neighbors.

You could always take some time to think about where you might like to try living (out of state) and do some job hunting and see what transpires.

You are absolutely right about the cost of living in that area. But if you think your job might allow you to move up the ladder, you might want to stick it out a few years and see if an increase in salary improves things.

oh, and maybe a quality bf
Same job: You have a good job that you enjoy. The salary is pretty good but it is challenging for the area. That is the way it is for most people. I understand that you do not want a roommate at 30. I do not believe in roommates either. If you go back to Hartford, how much will you save on rent? What is your earring potential like? Why did you leave Hartford in the first place? Have you resolved the issues that prompted you to move? Do you think your life will really improve? If so,how?

Cheaper area to live: This is an easy fix. I would not pay an additional $200 per month to rent from month to month. That is not wise. You have plenty of time to explore neighborhoods.

Reasonable commute: You already admitted that your commute is manageable. A half an hour commute is pretty good. That is not a long commute.

Nothing to do with NYC: I do not understand. You live in Connecticut.

Quality boyfriend: If you get this, I believe the other stuff will not matter.

I recommend that you stay at your job and find another place to live. One year is not enough time to determine if you like a place. Did you give the place a chance?

Sometimes, we need to focus on the good stuff and build around it.

Sounds like you need to pick another state. For 1550$ a month you could rent a beautiful home in NC. 1550$ for a one bedroom is UNBELIEVABLE. I'm currently paying 700$ a mnth for a nice 3 bedroom 2 bath QUIET apartment.

I also think you'd be happier in, say, northern Norwalk, or even New Canaan or north Stamford. I have a friend that rents a pretty big place in New Canaan for less than $1400/month. It's over 1200 square feet and might be available soon. PM me if you want the info.

Cheap is not necessarily "good". And actually usually quite the oppositte which goes to the root of being so inexpensive. And besides, we've already been through the process of Nep exploringbthe NC possibility.

The job market in NC is not very good.

This may be true in some cases, but my standard of living is above the "norm". There are some beautiful rent to own homes down here on the coast. For 1500$ you'd do very well for yourself. I couldn't imagine spending 1500$ a mnth for a one bedroom unless maybe it's in Malibu. The apts down here for 1500$ are 3bdrms 2 bath and have access to jacuzzi, coffee shop, tanning, pools etc etc all within the apt complex and included in the rent.

Lol..@ 1,500$ a month in Malibu. Housing prices are above "the norm" in such areas for a reason and less then "the norm" in other parts of the country, also for a reason.

The job market isn't the worst or the best. It's changed a lot due to reloacted Northerners. Different area's are better than others. It's a desirable area to live so not a lot of people leave. They are building up quite a bit and the job market will be rising in the next couple years with company growth.
