I'm completely new to this site but I've used here and there through the years. I've always lived in Derby Connecticut (near New Haven). Next year, I'll be going to get my master's in the New Haven area. For work I travel to the Western part of the state somtimes as far as Sharon. My boyfriend lives in Westchester county and works in Lower Manhattan. We're trying to find something "fairly" inexpensive and in between both our lives as well as somewhere not far from a metro north for him to get into the city. Any ideas! Thanks!

That is a really tough spread, and unfortunately there really aren't any inexpensive options for you. The drive from Westchester area to New Haven isn't so bad. If he commutes from Stamford, it will be well over an hour from lower Manhattan. That's the furthest I would recommend going out. But Stamford is pricey. All options around there will be.

Stay in NY. It is easy to get to New Haven, about 1 1/2 from Westchester County. In NYC could take an hour from Westchester with NY traffic. If you go to Connecticut, Stamford or Norwalk.

Thanks for all the replies. Sorry for not including the rent probably $1,500 would be absolute max and $1,200 or under would be ideal.

Yeah I would stick to Westchester. Maybe New Rochelle? The drive from there to New Haven isn't horrible. There will be some traffic, but it's doable - unless you have a night class and have to leave at rush hour.
