I recently had a meeting with my business in NY from other parts of the country, and 6 out of the other 8 thought Fairfield County should be part of NY state. Yes, Fairfield County is part of the NY Metro, but a guy from California in the meeting thought Danbury was in NY. Even Craigslist puts FFC in the NY region, not with NH county, Hartford County, etc. Some people I know think FFC should be part of NY because they do more than what CT does. And if FFC is considered NY, New Haven County is also in the NY Metro area. When will that be considered NY?

I haven't heard of this before. Maybe far-away outsiders get confused?? But it's called the "tri-state" area for a reason, right?

Making FFC part of NY State is weird, too. FFC is a big economic center for CT, just like how the New Jersey part of NY Metro is important for NJ State (Jersey City, Hoboken, Newark, Elizabeth, Paterson, and so on). If all of NY Metro became NY State, there would be big problems in what's left of CT and NJ...

A lot of people seem to think FFC will be better fit in NY.

It does bother the heck out of me that Craigslist puts FFC in NY state. I wonder if CL does that with any other states? It's just incorrect and pointless. Having said that, I do know a number of people in lower FFC who live there specifically to be in close proximity to NYC and would love FFC to become NY; they shop there, dine there, party there, work there, fly out of there, watch NY news stations....blame those people.

It's under NYC instead of NY state on CL, just means it's in that area

I'd much prefer to leave Fairfield County in Connecticut. It's character, while somewhat distinct from the rest of Connecticut, is dissimilar from NYC's. I very much appreciate the connection via train-- I was in the city for an event yesterday and slept in my own bed-- but the connection does not make it the same area.

Fairfield County is not part of the NYC metro area, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. It is it's own distinct metro area. However, it is part of the NYC combined statistical area. However, while actually living here, it does feel like it should be part of the NYC metro area. Everywhere you look, there are signs directing you to "N.Y. City" and half of the radio stations are NYC based. It's common to see NY plates everywhere, and occasionally you will hear the NY accent. Also, the metro north, which runs through Fairfield County is centralized around NYC. So, I don't know why the Census Bureau doesn't include it in the NYC metro area....it's beyond me.
