So glad I do not live in FFC as the traffic in the Hartford area is bad enough for me, not to mention the outrageous COL.
Employers in Fairfield County already do this, as do Hartford employers. They also encourage employees to take trains and mass transit BUT they still provide plenty of free parking if employeeswant to drive. There is still a major traffic issue. It needs to be a balanced approach of highway and mass transit. I honestly think Molloy will come out with some strategic announcement before the election to address this. We will see. Jay

From what I've seen firsthand (and secondhand), Fairfield County employers are doing away with remote employees. It does however seem to be the thing to do with the frugal Hartford insurance companies.

My brother works in downtown Hartford and commutes from Windsor Locks. Normally, it should be a 15-minute drive, but he told me it takes him typically 35 minutes to drive home. I was like "whaaaaaaaaat?" That's just as bad as it takes me to commute home from Stamford to Norwalk, which would be about 12 minutes without traffic. I don't know if he's lying to try to 1UP me or what, but I don't remember traffic being that bad heading home north on I-91.

At 5:40 PM on the surprisingly accurate Google traffic, they estimate the times to be the following:

Hartford to Windsor Locks - 24 minutes in current traffic
Stamford to Norwalk - 25 minutes in current traffic

Granted I think 95 has a much earlier rush hour, as it usually peaks around 5 pm.

Another possibility -- waterway commuting, especially for FFC commuter heading into NYC. Especially as NYC is increasing capital programs for boat terminals.

Infrastructure does not mean only people transport and commuting. Another opportunity I see is also on burying the electrical lines.

Yet, everything is driven by funding. If the economy was doing better, receipts would increase, which would allow more investment.

Another aspect is opening of the bid solicitations to non-union outfits. Many people don't realize that NYC's own construction boom of the previous decade was largely enabled by non-union labor.

Cost structure of building union makes projects often unfeasible.

Wait until May/June for all the traffic to go nuts, and then the entire warm season on Friday afternoons. For some reason this time of year is pretty tame comparatively traffic-wise.

I am not sure why you think it only takes 15 minutes to get from Windsor Locks to Hartford. I-91 southbound into Hartford has very heavy traffic each workday morning. It is about 13 miles from downtown so I would think it takes 20 minutes without traffic. It could easily add 10 to 15 minutes in traffic and then to get to parking add a few minutes more. Even leaving in the evening it would be similar in the northbound direction. Jay
