I really dont care about medium crime, I lived in a "medium crime" area for 20 years. Now, I dont want a place where a shooting happens every day.

Important Info

1.5 million Down-Payment
1 kid (11 years old)
1 dog (shih tzu)
Walkable Downtown
Local Restuarants
Local Shopping
Big-Box Stores
Close to Freeway
Not a low crime rate, but a medium crime rate
Decent Schools

That is what I care about.
All kidding aside about Stamford, I think you might like north Stamford. I grew up in north Stamford (closer to Greenwich), it is a very nice area, liberal, and has a low crime rate. There are a lot of creative people that live in north Stamford that commute back and forth to NYC. If you live in the western part of Stamford your child will go to good schools which include Westhill HS, I loved going to school there. Downtown Stamford has everything you want on your list. Stamford also has very good private schools that a lot of the kids in North Stamford go to.

The Merrit Parkway is in North Stamford and Interstate 95 is in the downtown area. If you become a Yankee fan you can get to Yankee stadium in about 1/2 hr. if there is no traffic.

FYI......

Stamford/Greenwich = socially liberal
Darien/New Canaan = socially conservative

Based on your criteria, I would research these towns.

High ranked schools, high price:
Greenwich
Fairfield
Westport

High ranked schools, moderate price:
West Hartford
Guilford
Madison

Slightly above average ranked schools, moderate price:
Branford
Milford

Below average ranked schools, high-moderate price:
Stamford
Norwalk

It sounds like being near either Stamford or New Haven will give you a lot of what you're looking for.

Let me remind everyone that this is a vacation week for most of the kids.

Waterbury and New Britain are nice. Maybe mid to higher-ish crimes. You don't really hear gun shots (which I read you do not desire), but may get to witness the occasional shanking "foh cash" , the classic big-mouthed wife domestic beat-down, and possibly a few home boys running off from their recent pharmacy hit with a fat sack of Oxycontin.
