It's really not that bad. We do all of our shopping there, and believe me nobody is more observant than me when it comes to sketchiness...! Actually, there s a big push to bring Willimantic into the 21st century, we shall see how things develop.

Well since we are digging up old posts, might as well join the fun regarding Hartford.

YouTube - ‪Hartford, CT‬‏

YouTube - ‪Ghetto Fights,PELEA EN LA HARTFORD PROJET,LOS CASERIO DE LA HARTFORD,HARTFORD PRODUCTIONS‬‏

YouTube - ‪Puerto Rican Parade 2010 HARTFORD, CT (4D Cal/Unified Blocks Edition)‬‏

YouTube - ‪the jamaican parade in hartford, ct 8-9-08‬‏

Yea there are some nice spots, but the above is more dominate IMO and experience and not I'm not some sheltered suburbanite. I grew up in the ghetto and go into the city all the time.

East Hartford on Rt 5 isn't so bad, we go to a Vietnamese "PHO" restaurant right by where I-84 crosses Rt 5. Not the greatest neighborhood but I feel o/k there. Parts of Manchester are worse for sure. North Wethersfield as well, not so hot. parts of Middletown are shady as well.

Downtown Norwich skeeves me out.

  • The Blue Hills section of Bloomfield
  • Route 5 through East Hartford
  • Most of New London
  • The southeastern section of Norwich
  • Willimantic
  • Southeast section of Bridgeport
  • The extreme northern section of Wethersfield
  • Most of New Haven
  • The extreme southern section of Hamden
  • Anywhere in Waterbury east of Route 8
  • Parts of Ansonia and Derby
  • Most of New Britain
  • Parts of West Haven
  • Rockville
  • Parts of Central Manchester
And I'm being dead honest here. Can't stand driving through any of those places (in the side streets, not on the highway). I just feel very out of place and sketched out and uncomfortable.
Willimantic has some real bad areas as does meriden, but new London and some of the other places you listed are perfectly fine. I mean seriously...rockville?

North end of Hartford is horrible. I feel safer in Hunts Point Bronx by the Sheridan Expressway.
