I wish I could move back to Ohio, the only problem is that it is very bland. not a single trace of anywhere though in OH.

I'm finding that as the weather gets warmer, even by 3pm-330pm, there's tons of traffic on the Merritt earlier than typical rush hour times.. I drove, going northbound to Wallingford, and there was such dense, heavy traffic, that there were complete standstills for most of my drive (up until I reached exit 50).

I usually make this exact commute once a week (mid-week, no less), and no matter what time I leave, or what day I leave, I face this same battle.

Yes

But why is this a seasonal pattern? Do most people traveling on the Merritt have jobs that keep them until late in winter, but let them go home early in Spring/Summer?

If so, what jobs are these?

I don't think that the exponential increase in traffic on basic weekdays has much to do with those going to Cape Cod,RI, casinos, etc, especially during early Spring.

At least with my line of work (I'm an ED doc), there are no (seasonal) fluctuations in my work schedule.

Lol......I've been asking that for 4 years and it's the reason I started this thread......to get other views on what they think causes it.
I've posted on here but from memory:
Spring: end of April - end of school is a traffic nightmare through FFC
Summer: June-August(sometimes July though) is when it lightens up a bit
Fall: September(Start of School) hits and Carmageddon begins.
Winter: To me, it seems to lighten up again in December and is lighter through March.

Repeat all over again.

Another thing.....rain on the Merritt equals EPIC FAIL. Drizzle or a downpour, the flow becomes a crawl. I wont even mention snow.......another fail.
Congestion adds to it.......2 lanes in the year 2014 doesn't help either.......exits every mile or so isn't the best idea. Lots add to it. I just like trying to figure out why and seeing what others think too.
