So I know we have discussed traffic on this parkway before and I am used to the changing patterns by now. It is now spring and for some reason spring brings carmageddon. I still cant figure out why. January thru March were fairly light.....for the Merritt......but once April 1st came, it was like someone turned on a switch of pure hell. This week was especially awful.
Besides that, one thing that has always been consistent is Friday nights.....could be Merrit,95 or 684......Friday night is a nightmare. Why? What makes Friday night any different from the other 4 nights?

This image below is from just now on Google maps. See the black in Stamford? That is an accident so that is random......but besides that Friday nights are horrible. 2 hours + sometimes
from Westchester to home. I'm not trying to sound like I am complaining, I have accepted my hell until I find a job in my field closer to home.......
Its more like trying to understand why?

My guess is that during the week, there's more variation on when people are leaving work. On Fridays, people probably try to get out "on time," so there's more volume all around the same period.

I agree with Lintu's explanation. However, like you, I still can't figure out why traffic is light for certain months during the year and then it randomly gets significantly worse.

Could be that people are traveling to casinos, RI, or the Cape now that it's warmer, going on weekend trips, or something similar.

I'd be down for that. From what I gather it's much worse from now until about September in southeast Mass and RI.

Course, there's a lot that could be done to improve CT infrastructure. We're a small enough state, you'd think it'd be easier.

For my commute, April thru June is heavy traffic.........then when school stops, it gets lighter in summer......then come September , carmageddon starts again.......and then lightens up again towards December........then January through March is light and manegable...........and repeat.......

It's new yorkers/nyc metro area going north for the weekend! It adds to the already congested highway.

Noticed this myself. Its like clockwork . I always though schools had something to do with it. Less kids and teachers in school = more on the road...

But that theory doesn't make sense for April.

It really is hell in the area. Its like your trapped in your town knowing you can't freely leave without sitting or stopping for traffic.
Route 7 in Norwalk by Main Avenue is a disaster!

Where is population control!
