40 minutes to go 15 miles......sad thing is, that's probably quicker than average for that stretch during the daytime.

If there's an accident, yes. But it's pretty rare for it to be that bad. Otherwise it's usually around 15 to 20 min. Which is still pretty terrible considering it's 6 miles.

Looks like CT will be getting tolls.

No new taxes, but more fees to add to our awesome COL. I'm not against tolls, but how about we stop wasting money instead of looking for other revenue sources.

I wouldn't entirely rule out new taxes -- "there are other ways to pay for it" sounds very much like code to me for "raise taxes"

Malloy doesn't rule out Connecticut highway tolls

What? You don't think that giving raises to the tune of $1.4M is called for? I mean these people haven't had raises in 4 years. My word... The thing that scares me the most is when he said [paraphrase] that it's not fair when the majority of the people reporting to these managers make more than their managers.

How much are we paying people in this State?

Back on topic, I would love to see where tolls would be located. My guess would be I95NB from NY, I95SB from RI, I84EB from NY, I84WB from Mass and I384(SB) from Mass. Also I91SB from Mass. If at these locations it will not have a huge effect on commuters in Connecticut unless you work in FFC and commute to NYC or to Springfield or to Providence.

Just keep adding to the cost of living. No problem I'm sure we'll all be getting 12% this year as well to keep up with electric rates and new "taxes."

Source?

Malloy saying he's not "against tolls" doesn't mean "I'm going to start putting up tolls right now."

There is an interesting poll that is part of the article you linked here. It shows that nearly 69% of the 454 people that responded to the question of "If it meant better roads for Connecticut, would you support bringing back tolls?" responded "No". Only about 31% responded "Yes". Seems there is still a lot of opposition to tolls as a way to pay for new or improved highways.

There is currently a major study being conducted by CTDOT on ways to pay for highway improvements. We are facing a huge cost to pay for needed improvements to our highway system. With no increase in the gas tax and gas consumption going down, there will be less money in the future for improvements. The Federal Highway Administration is still not allowing tolls on interstate highways so how can the state raise money to pay for it all? Not an easy question. Jay
