So what is now an easy and relatively affordable night for families will get more expensive and be harder to get to. Jay
Parking is going to be $2 extra and you have to keep in mind the move will make it easier for families that live closer to Hartford.

Didn't see THIS coming? ::sarcasm::

Hartford To Pay 8 Percent Annually For Stadium Project - Courant.com

Hartford to RENT?! the Stadium for nearly $4M a year for the first five years and an additional 5% for every 5 years after that. Rockcats will in turn lease the Stadium for $500k a year for the first 15-years (if they last that long). So, the City of Hartford is taking a LOSS of $3.5k a year to start. How is this going to help Hartford?

Also, I was in East Hartford yesterday and was near the Rent. It has not sprung up business in that area (minus Cabelas). The Stadium is the same thing just in a different season.

The only winner in this situation is Hartford (because they get a fancy new office), the Developer because they are getting a guaranteed income and the Rock Cats. The losers are CT Taxpayers because CT Taxpayers fund 70% of Hartford's budget, Hartford people because they are getting sold a pipe dream and the City of New Britain.

Didn't you know that every government deal now has to reek of reverse socialism-- taking what is public money and what are public facilities and turning them in to cash for private enterprise...

It's disgusting if you ask me.

Don't look now, but post offices all over the US are being sold in "sweethart deals" to developers. See Westport, Fairfield and more...

It's reverse socialism.

Thought I'd seen it all until this deal was floated about. We have a business that is pitting two cities against each other which not only is in the same state, but in the same county ten miles apart.

If the Rockcats were threatening to move to a different state I would understand (but not agree with) negotiating, but moving ten miles up the road is a joke.

Sweet justice would be to let Hartford build this stadium and no one shows up. Nothing but crickets. Then maybe next time they'll think about using the public's money.

Actually, they did not even approach New Britian on the stadium. They were supposedly in talks with Springfield, MA about moving there. Not much is mentioned about that so I do not know how real those talks were. Jay

Rockcats are no longer affiliated with a major league team.

Minnesota Twins Severing Ties With New Britain

My guess, this whole thing is going to get trashed. Rockcats shot themselves in the foot. What a bonehead move by management. They will be out of the State within the year.

In the mean time The Courant is running a story on how "much" money the city would gain from the stadium. Over 30 years it stands to profit $22.8m. Why does this whole thing reek of smoke/mirrors and tax payers money.

To be honest, that sounds more like they had a deadline to renew or not, and they don't think the future is known well enough to renew yet. But they still have the option to sign with the Rockcats again.

This is correct. Even the Twins website says it does not mean a lot. Hopefully a deal can be worked out. Jay

The Rock Cats have affiliated with the Colorado Rockies for the next two seasons.

Interesting. The Rockies used to affiliate with the New Haven Ravens. I miss having the Ravens in CT. Used to go to quite a few of their games at the old (OLD!) Yale field.

Good to see that the Rock Cats will continue.
