young people may not be able to buy, but they need to rent. High property taxes for the landlord = higher rent prices.

I want to get a new car but dont feel like paying over 1k a year for the privalege of driving it to work to earn a living . I will wait till we move so another state can have my sales tax.
You pay $600 on a 08 sentra with 100k miles on it?? According to KBB, your car is worth $7400 in excellent condition private party. Using that number, with Southington's mill rate at 28.3, you shouldn't be paying any more than $210 per year.

I haven't received a full year of Southington yet, though I'm sure I will soon. My combined middletown/southington from last year was over 6. Middletowns mill rate is not THAT much higher than Southington (maybe 30-33 ish) so I'm doubtful it will be significantly less. Don't know what to tell you other than neither town appraised my car in any way, shape, or form to know what it's worth.

Maybe they made a typo at the DMV and wrote "2012 Nissan GTR". But I doubt that too.

Wow! You pay $600 for a 2008 car? How can that be? I guess it depends on the town?
I have a 2013 Hyundai Elantra and my car tax bill just came and it's "only" $480.00.

Maybe neither town prorated taxes on the car? That would be sweet for the future but boy did they screw me last year if that's the case.

You need to contact your tax assessor's office. You'd think they'd know how many miles you have on your car, but trust me they don't. You're being overassessed. I went through this w/ my town hall, and my tax bill was adjusted accordingly (I have over 200K miles on my 2003 commuting car.) These days I'm paying about $65 a year in car taxes because it's worth next to nothing w/ that many miles.

I would double check that...

I agree with this too. Even the car I had before I traded it in was a 2009 Chevy HHR/SS and I was being charged $420.00 back in 2012. I think my mill was around 32 on my latest bill which just came.
I think you should call your town for sure.

Mine should be ~$900, but I have a brand new Jeep and my town has a mil rate of 26. And I feel my town is valuing my Jeep too high - shouldn't it be 70% of assessed value, or is that just property taxes for the home?
