My husband has business in Hebron in October. I'm planning on joining him for a week with our 9 month old daughter. Hebron doesn't seem to have very much going on and has no appropriate hotels for us. We were considering staying at the Mohegan Sun so that my daughter and I would have plenty to do during the day. He would just commute to Hebron each day. I'm not sure about traffic in CT and how functional that would be. Could I get get some advice from locals or people more familiar about CT? Where would you suggest that we stay? Thanks!

This sounds like a decent plan. It is about 30 minutes out to Hebron, and away from traffic. You would take Route 2 much of the way and it is a good road.

Great! The other option was to go to Hartford but without a car during the day, I thought the Mohegan Sun would be a better choice. Is it worth splurging to stay at the Mohegan Sun or should we book a nearby hotel with free shuttle for less?

I found a quote of $746 per night for a room in the Mohegan Sun. Is the employer paying? Frankly, I could never afford that rate, and I would stay nearby. Your child might be happier in a place where she can get outside and play on the grass.

There are a lot of beaches not far from Mohegan Sun - Ocean Beach in New London, Rocky Neck in East Lyme, Misquamicut over in Rhode Island. Personally, I'd drive to the beach for a day rather than stay at Mohegan Sun. You won't be able to bring the baby into the casino part of Mohegan Sun, so you'd basically be going back & forth through the mall there during the day. They have a place at Mohegan Sun that watches kids, but I'm not sure if it's free or not.

Thanks for all of the replies! The Mohegan Sun is about $215 per night for the nights I was looking at. We would have to go somewhere else on Friday and Saturday as the rates are closer to $500 for the weekend. My husband's work would pay for the weekdays though. So Mohegan Sun doesn't have any grounds to wander?

Are those beaches close enough that it would be reasonable to commute to Hebron each day?

As I remember, the Mohegan Sun is a high-rise built into a rocky cliff. So there are limited places to walk.

The beaches sound like a good idea, although in October the air is chilly. Ocean Beach in New London has a wonderful carousel but check whether it is still open in October. The beaches are further to travel to Hebron, maybe 40 minutes fro Rocky Neck.

I'd suggest staying near the Mohegan Sun, in a motel where you have some grass and a play area. If you can use a car, then plan day a day trip to the beach.
