This is the same poster who thinks every road in Fairfield County is bumper to bumper 24 hours a day.

East Hampton has a few things...but most of it is older than I'd prefer, and the trek up Route 66 to Route 2 is a pain....66 through Marlborough gets really slow.

I wouldn't go anywhere near the Windham area. That area just seems depressed to me....feels more like you're in West Virginia than CT.

I don't mind a 45 minute drive..congestion wont be an issue as Route 2 east is pretty empty in the morning, and I'm on the road pretty early (6:15 am)...but yeah I'm concerned about continued wear and tear on my car.

What's Niantic like? While I'm not too keen on living in SE CT, a 15-20 min commute would be great.
In order to have stores and restaurants, you need to have traffic. If you think Glastonbury traffic is too much you really need to look to be further from civilization. Jay

Why would Glastonbury be ideal for commuting to Norwich? It's over 30 miles away.

Somewhere like East Lyme is nice and half the distance.

Georgetown Dr isn't in the center of Glastonbury. It's a very convenient location with easy access to RT2. I lived in Georgetown about 20 yrs ago and wanted to move back to that area (not in a condo). However, when the wife and I were looking about 3 yrs ago we couldn't afford Glastonbury.

Glastonbury, Colchester, and Marlborough are probably your best choices. You should consider taking a drive in those areas some time to look for condos.

East Lyme is a great town, its a little beyond your budget, but not too much. You will probably pay on average $240-300k. Great schools as well. And a really easy commute to Norwich. Usually its just a fast drive up I-395 for about 17 miles. If your really on a tight budget though, you might have trouble finding really nice towns with good schools. You can always look at Windham County, but quite a bit of the towns there are lacking in good schools. Windham County has some towns within your budget but their schools are average at best. There are also towns there that have good schools, but still a little beyond your budget though.

They are great towns but OP already said Glastonbury is beyond his budget, and Marlborough and Colchester are a little as well. I also want to add to that list Hebron. Hebron is about the same quality town as Marlborough.

OP I reread your post. You said you prefer not living on the I-95 corridor, but usually once you get past New Haven, I-95 smooth sailing, especially after you pass the CT river. You are completely out of the congested area (with the exception of holiday and summer weekend traffic). But it should be an easy commute to work.

You could also look at Putnam or Killingly. They are towns with food and stores, but just so you know schools are not the best there. If schools are important to you, don't look in these towns.

Thats a little too long a commute I would be willing to tolerate, but if the OP is fine with a 49 mile commute I suppose its a good place. Still a little on the edge of his budget though.

OP I hope you realize its really not going to be easy to find a home in a good town in CT with that budget.
