Man, not just Monroe, but this takes a toll on Trumbull, too. Considering it's walking distance to the border. I'm still in shock a town like Monroe is letting Walmart come in. World War III would start before Newtown even THINKS about letting that happen and I thought Monroe was very much like that, albeit, lil' more lenient. :/
Unfortunately, Monroe residents were not given the option to vote.
The Town of Monroe, like most towns in Connecticut, have strict zoning laws. If a development is proposed that reasonably meets the zoning for the site, by law the project must be approved. The town and its residents have no choice. The zoning board cannot discriminate based on what company is coming in even if it is Walmart. I am not a Walmart shopper but there are some Walmarts that are not too bad. Rocky Hill and New Milford come to mind. Jay
