In the context of Shoreline towns, Madison feels like Westport, big name recognition, high status, etc. Fenwick for example (a borough, part of Old Saybrook) may have a more expensive real estate and higher wealth, yet Madison has the fame.

Keep in mind that none of these shoreline towns are commutable from NYC, unlike Westport, and its peers in FFC. So it'S definitely less wealth, less stress, slower life in comparison.

Lyme, Old Saybrook, and Stonington - the lands of those who need not commute to NYC. This includes subsets of "the private investor" and "the 3rd generation trust fund baby." I will agree though that people are able to enjoy life a little bit more on the shoreline of SE CT than in FFC and certain other parts of the country. But they also have to share their county with those nasty blue collar folk! Ewww!

Yeah, I get that feeling too. And it's not all big money, it's much closer to middle class than Westport despite having the mansions on/near the water. Westport is mostly upper class with some upper middle class and very little middle class. Madison is some upper class, mostly upper middle, with a solid amount of middle too.

Spent part of my childhood in Madison. It is FFC lite - plenty of attitude but less money. It is noticeably different than a town like Branford.

Is there a such thing as a town in CT that has attitude/pretense, but is middle class at best? Maybe South Windsor? Or Cheshire?

Without a doubt, Trumbull.

From City Data Info

Household Income Madison: $106,197

Household Income Trumbull: $105,202

How could it be that everyone on here says that Madison is the "Westport" of New Haven and Trumbull is "middle class with pretense" if they almost have identical incomes?

Just saying

Different areas - east of New Haven, Madison is maybe the highest income town. West of New Haven, Trumbull isn't near the top compared to Greenwich, Weston, Wilton, Westport, Ridgefield, Darien, New Canaan, Fairfield, etc.
