If you got the choice to live anywhere (Upstate NY, Nevada, Los Angeles, Texas, Florida, etc), would you move out, or stay?

I love CT, but we probably would not live here if it were not for family in nearby NY. It's very hard to keep my husband's business up and running here. Taxes and business expenses aside, which are hard to swallow for sure, there just isn't the number of licensed and skilled tradespeople in our employment pool as is needed to run a fully-operational business. My husband would LOVE to hire someone who might only have the skill and ability and a willingness to learn this point, but not necessarily a license just yet. This option, however and unfortunately, is regulated by the state and per the state, it's off the table; the state says hiring an unlicensed plumber beyond your stipend is a big FAT no-no.
Attention parents of the not-so-academically inclined children, but who happen to be geniuses with their hands - do us all a favor please: do not send your kids to college for yet another worthless bachelors degree; send them instead to technical school. We all need them. Desperately! Thanks!!

I'm shocked at how many advertisements I see for technical related businesses. It's like, everything here in (Upper) FFC is about roofing, plumbing, landscaping, window/tiles, etc. Hahaha! I was thinking about this a month ago. Just an observation. Nothing good/bad about it. Curious if it's the same elsewhere in the state. I don't remember it being like this back when I lived in L.A.

Anyways, living in Connecticut depends on which phase of my life I am in. The biggest deterrent for Connecticut is family. Unfortunately, there's no one really close by here to me, so, I would like to move West or South where I have my relatives around. I'll miss CT for sure when I do move. But, if family wasn't in the question, I would like to stay in Connecticut for my kids. Education here is top notch and it's a safe environment. I have everything I need nearby and I can do so much around the Northeast. Traveling is easy here compared to other places in America. Real Estate (As of right now, lol!) is quite reasonable most places in the state, and yeah.

I can't deny that as a young adult, I'm definitely attracted to places like Houston, but deep down, I know I can only stay there temporarily. I wouldn't wanna live there forever.

^ my husband has been in a constant hiring mode for the past 2 years. There's seriously not anyone qualified (read: there's not anyone fully licensed and employable) responding to his advertisements. He has two apprentices, but he is barred from hiring a third until he adds 3 more licensed plumbers. But there aren't 3 more licensed plumbers to hire... It's a viscous circle created by the bully unions (apologies to any union members here). But seriously and honestly, they've protected their positions to the detriment of the rest of us.

I've had that choice, left, and I'm back in CT. Couldn't be happier.

Business has slowed for these trades since the recession, which is why they are advertising more now. I know many in those trades that have suffered in recent years. (although not plumbers, you can put off remodeling your kitchen, but you can't put off most plumbing issues)

To answer the question, I have debated this issue over the years, but still can't think of somewhere I'd rather move to permanently outside CT.

I'd certainly pick CT over upstate NY. I studied at the undergraduate level in the Rochester area. Beautiful campus and incredible memories, but the economy is non-existent and the sun really does not come out from November through April. The summers are beautiful though.

I would stay in New England in any circumstance.

I have had that choice, left and plan on never coming back. Only downside to it, is still have a lot of family in friends in CT, fortunately its less then a 2.5 hour ride away.
