Plus other places with their specialty pizza's they use different cheeses depending what type of pizza it is. For example - at Willington Pizza House on their red potato pizza they use cheddar cheese.
All of them...

They consider mozzarella a topping in New Haven.

Pepe's Tomato pie is wonderful, especially with garlic.

Always kills me that the "pizza blend" of cheese at supermarket includes cheddar.

Not to mention the low quality of those overpriced mixes, which turn into a translucent mush when melted. Do people actually use that cheese-like substance on their own pizzas?

Someone else that has the same opinion as me about Pepe's. I do feel they are good, but before the expanded outside New Haven, why people would wait in that line on Wooster St in the 15 degrees winter weather is beyond me. (and I am a pizza lover!) I think they are overrated. Sure, I do like it and will go for sure, but I prefer a style like Mystic Pizza. (went there last weekend, the pizza was so good. Perfect crust texture - exactly the style I like!) With Pepe's, sometimes the crust too burnt to eat and it has no flavor.

I think this may be the first time I've heard someone prefer Mystic Pizza to Pepe's.

I tried New Haven pizza before at Pepe's, Modern, and Sallys. Nothing too special IMHO, rather drive down to DiFari's, Captains, or Patsys.

Patsy's is nowhere near any of big New Haven spots. It's nowhere near DiFara's either.

Sometimes I wonder how much of your posts are based on what you've read online vs. real experiences....

Have you ever been to DiFara's?

Talking about pizza, I wish a good place would open in Upstate. All we have are places trying to mock NY pizza. They do a horrible job also.
