Because some people are willing and able to pay more to live in a coastal town like Westport. They want to be closer to shopping and entertainment, the train stations and beaches. They also may not like to live in an area that is rural in character. Jay

This is why Greenfield Hill is near perfect: it is close to the Post Road for all the conveniences and has the rural feel of a place like Weston or Redding (and maybe even a little more "manicured" actually).

It's an amazing and beautiful location, but probably more expensive than Weston/Easton?

Certainly more expensive than Easton (apples to apples), but Weston can be pretty spendy.

I agree. Greenfield Hill is wonderful. You can be at major shopping centers on Black Rock Turnpike or the Post Road in 10 minutes or so yet it still has an semi-rural feel to it due to the minimum 2 acre zoning. It is probably less expensive than Weston or Wilton but more than Easton. Still it is a nice place to live. Jay

Greenfield Hill prices are about on par with Wilton and Weston, but cheaper than Southport or Westport.

When we were looking (2011) Wilton/Weston were generally on par with Greenfield Hill. Westport, on the other hand, was clearly more expensive. I suspect this is still generally the case.

A nice article on Greenfield Hill for those thinking of the area.

From the article by Rick Higgins, head of Higgins Real Estate:

Living on the Hill also takes a particular mind-set. New money has long circulated with old, but it does so fairly quietly. “Greenfield Hill is very understated,” says Rick Higgins, a resident and the chairman of the Higgins Group, a Fairfield-based real estate company. “The line between Westport and Greenfield Hill is the line between New York and New England.”

This New England reserve, which may be the essence of the place, is best expressed in what isn’t shown and isn’t talked about. The driveways are long and winding for a reason. And if, as the old social dictum goes, “Greenwich speaks only to Southport,” then Greenfield Hill speaks only to itself. Here, privacy trumps publicity.

Interesting article. I think it does capture what Greenfield Hill is all about. One thing though that it does not mention is that Greenfield Hill was not really built on New York money. Sure there were a number of New Yorkers who came and had homes there but most of the homes on Greenfield Hill were built for wealthier people from Bridgeport. This is why Greenfield Hill lacks the New York vibe of Westport. It is more New England than New York. Jay

The same goes for Easton IMO but even more so.
